Haven't Posted in a While

Since I haven't been posted too regularly, I'll summarize the last week of running.

On Sunday, my friend was back in town and we ran 8 miles. It went pretty well, but the weather was cold.

On Monday, I bugged my co-worker in the morning to go running at noon. As noon approached, I realized I had forgotten my running shoes. If I had been wearing another pair of running shoes to work, it wouldn't have been a big deal, but that day I was wearing some Keen hiking sandals. Since I had already bugged my co-worker, I didn't want to back down. So I ran 4 miles in sandals. At first, I was a bit concerned of how it would go, but it actually was fine. The ties kept coming loose, so I had to stop and tie them several times. Also, they felt loose on my feet, so the run was probably harder than it would have been. But, I didn't hurt myself or feel sore afterwards, so it was a good run. I'm was glad I went.

Tuesday, I ran a normal run, with running shoes! My co-worker had to take care of his son, who wasn't feeling well. So I ran by myself.

Wednesday it was really cold and raining, so I took the day off from running.

Thursday I went by myself again. I had gotten a little upset at work, and running felt really good. Its a great way to relieve stress.

Friday was a pretty normal run.

Saturday a took a day off. I ran 5 days out of the last 7 which isn't bad.

I ran on both Wednesday and Thursday this week. So hopefully I'm getting back into the swing of things. Neither run was too exciting. However it was very cold. On Thursday I wore two shirts, long pants, and gloves. I took the gloves off at the beginning of the run, but then put them back on again.

Finally, a Normal Run

I ended up not running on Sunday because my friend was out-of-town, it was cold outside, and I was just getting over being sick. On Monday I had to fly to Seattle for a meeting. I was basically gone for 12 hours to be in a 3 hour meeting.

But today, I just did my normal weekday run. My friend from work was busy, so I went by myself. I ran, as usual, through the Tualatin Hills Nature Park. However, today part of the park was closed so they could clear out some fallen trees.

This week wasn't so good for running. I didn't run Monday or Tuesday. By Wednesday, I was feeling a bit better, so I went for a short run around the Nike world headquarters. It was about 2.5 miles. It had been raining a lot earlier in the week, so the trail around Nike was pretty muddy. I was wearing pants, although my friend who ran with me was wearing shorts. When we got done, I noticed I had mud all over the backs of my pants legs. My friend had mud all over his legs.

On Thursday I went for my normal 4 mile, weekday run. I was still taking it easy as I wasn't 100% recovered from being sick. I felt fine. That night I went out for a few beers with a friend.

I don't know if it was the beer, or a relapse, but Friday I really wasn't feeling that great. I decided to take the day off from running. I also didn't run Saturday, which is normally the day I rest.

I'm hoping to run tomorrow (Sunday), but my usual running partner for the weekend is out-of-town, so it will be really easy for me to skip it. If I do run, I'll try to do it early so I don't miss any of the football games on television. With the writer strike going on, Football is about the only thing I watch on TV.

Maybe running with a soar throat yesterday wasn't the best idea, as I got sick. Had to take the day off from work. No running.

Sunday Run

I went for an 8 mile run today. It was hard to get motivated to get going, as I woke up with a sore throat and it was raining outside. Since I was picking up my friend at 8am, I decided that I had to go anyway. Its good motivation to have someone to run with. I'm sure that if I was running by myself, I would have skipped it today.

I probably actually ran more than 8 miles. We timed the run as 80 minutes, and dividing by 10 is easy, but we probably ran faster than 10 minute miles. It was raining most of the time during the run, but it didn't bother us much. It really started pouring as we were finishing the run. My big toe was hurting at the end of the run, but it was probably due to my shoes getting wet. After I got home and took my shoes off, my toe was fine.

First Post

I've decided to start recording my running in a blog. Right now I'm not training for any race, but I try to run regularly. My usual routine is to run once on the weekend, and then most of the weekdays. For example, this past week I ran Sunday, and Monday through Thursday, and took Friday and Saturday off.

On weekdays I run at lunch-time from work. I generally run with a friend from work. We usually run about 4 miles with a 9 minute/mile pace. Of course I still each lunch afterwards. So, with changing, running, shower, eating; my lunch breaks take about 90 minutes.

On weekends, I usually meet up with a friend at 8am on Sunday, and run a bit longer. We try to run 10 miles, but sometimes its less.

I hope to use this blog to enter the details of my runs and anything noteworthy that happens.
